The Challenge
CR Powered by Epiroc collaborated with a Bowen Basin customer and the leading rope supplier BBRG Australia to improve the service life of their RedbakXtraplasticated dump ropes. This customer was struggling to consistently meet the dump rope targets as the plastic coating would delaminate from the surface prematurely, resulting in accelerated rope damage & wear.
The Solution
Working with BBRG, we were able to refine the dump sheave profile and surface finish to better match the plasticated product and reduce rope damage. This new sheave profile completed a campaign of over 30 million BCMs and yielded approx. 30% improvement in rope life compared to the more traditional “black” rope profile, resulting in fewer rope changes and reduced down time.
The new sheave profile has been rolled out on all new CR dump blocks and is compatible with black rope. Combined with twisted-ear updates new blocks are also seeing a substantial improvement in dump rope life, allowing customers to space scheduled dump rope changes further out.
