The Challenge

An iron ore mine in Chile approached CR and its dealer to provide a product that would reduce machine down time and maintenance costs. They experienced frequent maintenance events for their cast lip, some of which prolonged the planned maintenance cycle, like lengthy weld repairs or pin bodies stuck inside cast noses.

The Solution

Following a review of site conditions, CR supplied a Stingray™ cast lip. The following lip features attributed to less frequent down time for bucket maintenance:

  • Lip strength
  • Single dig plane alignment of the teeth and shrouds allow for lower required digging forces.

The Outcome

Improved Safety

Reduced Cost

Decreased Shutdowns

The Impact

GET change out time is now more predicable and there have been no cast lip weld maintenance events. The overall cost of ownership for the cast lip and GET have been noticeably reduced. Reducing unplanned down time led to an increase in the machine’s long term production potential.
