The Challenge

A Western Australian Iron Ore miner required a solution that would improve machine availability and reduce maintenance costs across their front end wheel loader fleet. Substantial production time was lost to inspections, which result in reactive maintenance of weld-on/ bolt-on adapters, and associated wear protection to both adapters and the underside of the plate lips.

The Solution

CR delivered the worlds’ only 10 station cast lip solution for wheel loaders. The DecaEdge is specifically designed to reduce maintenance down time by:

  • Increasing lip strength for reliability and longevity
  • Removal of weld on adapters means no vulnerable weld joints to maintain or protect
  • Eliminated the requirement for unreliable bolt-on wear runner protection

The Impact

Following over 14 months and more than 7,000 operating hours, the lip has reported zero maintenance events or costs. A 3D wear analysis was conducted to determine if a wear package was required. The results show that the lip and noses only wore an average 6mm across the entire casting. This means that the lip was cleared to go back to work, with no further need for wear protection or maintenance.

The customer has since converted their entire WA1200 fleet to DecaEdge cast lip systems.
