On 13 – 14 October 2018, two CQMS Razer staff took action and joined the MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer bike ride.
The ride, done over two days, travels 200 kilometers through Perth’s countryside. It was a fundraising crusade that demonstrated each rider’s willingness to help Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research move closer to their vision of conquering cancer.
One of our staff shared his story of the two-day event:
The ride went very well from my perspective. It was a great event, incredibly well organized and best of all for a great cause of raising money for the Harry Perkins Institute. Over 800 riders attended the event over the two days and raised over $4.1m in total. I managed to keep up with John for approximately 60% of the first day, but then he took off! The weather was kind for the first day however things started to get a little dicey while camping in Mandurah (the halfway point).
Maca put together a fantastic reception for all riders in Mandurah. John and I took the opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces within the organization and meet a few new folks. It was fantastic to see the sheer number of people committed to the cause, which came to light during the dinner ceremony/speeches.
After quite an emotional evening, the physicality of the day took its toll, and I was asleep by 8:30 pm (until the thunderstorm almost ripped my tent off the ground).
The second day added a mental component to the challenge as I was not sure if my legs were going to stay strong for the remainder of the ride. The course took us close to the coast where cross-winds put the bikes on a tilt and some over entirely.
After two days and 200 kilometers, jumping back in the saddle was certainly worth it at the finishing line.
Well done to all the riders! CQMS Razer was glad to support the cause.
